This month, we’re putting the spotlight on our very own Heather MacKenzie Thorne. Heather was recently awarded the 2019 Rising Star Award by the Mid-Maine Chamber of Commerce. She is very involved with Waterville’s business community, currently serving in these roles:
- 2nd Vice Chair on the Mid-Maine Chamber Board of Directors
- Chair of the Chamber’s Marketing & Membership Committee
- Vice Chair of KV Connect
- Chair of the annual Coldwell Banker Plourde Real Estate Super Raffle
- Real estate agent at Coldwell Banker Plourde Real Estate, where she is a two time International Diamond Society member and International President’s Circle Member
…all on top of being a stellar wife & mom!
At the Chamber’s annual awards ceremony, Heather thanked her parents for showing her “what hard work and determination could do.” She comes from a family of small business owners and knows that it takes a lot of early mornings, dedication, and a positive attitude to be successful.
Heather has many competing responsibilities and is a master of time management. She is diligent about living by a calendar and prioritizes what she feels most passionate about. She shared, “previously I had been involved with a few different organizations at the same time, and I had to step back and really be truthful with myself about what I loved going to and being a part of.”
Heather chose to focus her efforts on the Chamber because it is a great opportunity to network and make connections. As an experienced leader within the organization, she would welcome more participation from young professionals in the area. “All of the committees at the Chamber are always looking for new people to get involved,” she said. “I’m happy to help find the right fit for anyone who is looking to get involved in their community.”
While all of her roles are important, she has realized that family comes first and makes a point to spend quality time with her husband and son in the evenings.
Congratulations to Heather on this well-deserved award. Our community is lucky to have you!
