Q&A with Elizabeth
Professional Background
- Can you describe your career journey and what led you to your current position?
My professional journey began at a local credit union, where I started as a teller and gained experience across several operational departments before returning to the branch as a Vault Teller. Over time, I advanced through Branch Leadership roles and ultimately served as Branch Manager of the flagship location for several years.
Following the COVID-19 pandemic, I realized my strengths and passions were better aligned with supporting internal teams and organizational success. This led me to transition into Regulatory Compliance and Risk Management at another local credit union, where I found my true professional home. Today, I lead a team of five Compliance and Risk professionals, partnering with operational teams across the credit union to manage risk, ensure regulatory compliance, and support the long-term success of our institution while promoting the financial well-being of the communities we serve.
Involvement with KV Connect
- Why did you decide to get involved with KV Connect?
I joined KV Connect to expand my professional network, build meaningful connections, and become more actively engaged in my local community. Through this organization, I have had the opportunity to connect with other professionals who are passionate about making a positive impact in the Kennebec Valley region. I am honored to serve on the Steering Committee and contribute to KV Connect's mission of connecting young professionals with their communities through economic, social, political, and community service initiatives.
Personal Connection & Local Pride
What do you love most about living and working in Central Maine?
I enjoy living and working in Central Maine because it offers the best of both worlds: beautiful outdoor spaces and a strong sense of community. Within a short drive, you can find great local restaurants, charming shops, hiking trails, and waterways to explore. There is also no shortage of community events to bring people together, from parades and festivals to concerts and seasonal celebrations. The accessibility of so many amenities and experiences makes Central Maine a truly special place to call home.
Personal Fun & Interests
What’s a fun fact most people don’t know about you?
I have a lifelong appreciation for classic cars, especially the Ford Mustang. Owning a 1965 Mustang was a dream of mine, and I was thrilled to make it a reality in June 2021. My red coupe is well-maintained, largely original, and powered by an inline-six engine paired with a three-speed manual transmission. Although it lacks the horsepower often associated with Mustangs, it more than compensates with timeless style and personality. It's the perfect car for a leisurely Sunday drive and, in my admittedly biased opinion, the prettiest grocery-getter on the road.
Advice & Inspiration
Who has had the biggest impact on your professional life?
I have been fortunate to work with several exceptional leaders throughout my career, but the one who had the greatest impact on my professional development was the Head Teller who gave me my first opportunity at age 18. As a member of the local credit union, I frequently interacted with her while conducting transactions. She recognized potential in me and encouraged me to apply for an open teller position. She was highly knowledgeable in her role and in credit union operations, and she genuinely cared about the growth and success of every member of her team. She led with compassion, balanced autonomy with clear expectations, and consistently challenged her employees to reach their full potential. Her guidance and belief in me provided the foundation for my career, and I would not be where I am today without her support and mentorship.
