Q&A with Abby - Membership Liaison
Professional Background
- Can you describe your career journey and what led you to your current position?
After graduating from college with a degree in Marketing and Business Management, I began my career in global supply chain roles, where I was responsible for allocating inventory to retail stores across the country. It was a fast-paced environment that gave me great insight into operations and logistics on a large scale. After a few years, I made the decision to move back to Maine and join my family's construction business. My current role has given me the opportunity to return to my marketing background and apply those skills in a new industry.
Involvement with KV Connect
- What do you think is the biggest benefit of being involved with KV Connect?
One of the biggest benefits of being involved with KV Connect is the opportunity to engage with the community and connect with like-minded people who live and work right in your own backyard. It’s exciting to meet others who can support your personal and professional growth, and to build meaningful relationships through shared experiences and great conversations. After moving back to the area as an adult, I found it challenging to meet new people, and KV Connect has been a fantastic resource for bringing young professionals together across the Kennebec Valley region.
Personal Connection & Local Pride
- What do you love most about living and working in Central Maine?
One of the things I love most is how each season brings its own set of outdoor adventures. Whether it’s skiing in the winter, beach days in the summer, hiking through fall foliage, or hitting the golf course in the spring, there’s always something new to look forward to. The changing seasons keep things fresh and exciting because you never really get bored because there’s always a reason to get outside and make the most of whatever time of year it is.
Personal Fun & Interests
- What’s a fun fact most people don’t know about you?
A fun fact about me: I earned a certificate in culinary arts from Cambridge Culinary School in Cambridge, MA. Cooking has always been a passion of mine, and attending culinary school was a long-time dream. In between my last job and moving back to Maine in 2024, I took the leap and completed a 16-week program focused on the science of cooking, along with sharpening my skills in both cooking and pastry. It was an incredible experience where I learned a lot, met some amazing people, and, of course, enjoyed some truly great food.
Advice & Inspiration
- What advice would you give to other young professionals starting out in their careers?
One of the best pieces of advice I’ve received is not to stress too much about finding the perfect career right away. Instead, focus on trying different things and learning what you don’t want to do. That shift in mindset really helped take the pressure off having to figure everything out at once. Every job and experience has value if it teaches you something about what you enjoy, what you don’t, and where you want to go next.
